RBI Announces Release of ₹20 Notes Signed by New Governor Sanjay Malhotra

New Delhi/Mumbai,– The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced on Saturday that it will soon issue new ₹20 denomination banknotes under the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, featuring the signature of newly appointed Governor Sanjay Malhotra.

According to an official statement from the central bank, the design of the new ₹20 notes will remain identical to the existing ₹20 banknotes currently in circulation under the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series. There will be no changes in the design, color, or security features of the new banknotes.

The RBI clarified that all previously issued ₹20 denomination notes, regardless of the governor’s signature, will continue to be legal tender. These new notes are part of the RBI’s routine issuance cycle, where banknotes are updated to reflect the signature of the current governor.

This update does not affect the validity of the older ₹20 banknotes already in circulation. The move is a procedural step in maintaining consistency with the RBI’s issuance standards and does not introduce any changes in the monetary system.
