Victim drugged with spiked drinks, taken to unknown location and assaulted; police register case and initiate investigation
Surat, A young woman living in the Ved Road area of Surat had come into contact with two men from the same locality through social media. Both men befriended her and frequently communicated with her over the phone. Later, the two friends convinced her to go for an outing near the Dumas sea shore. Instead of going to Dumas, they took her to an unknown beach where they reportedly drugged her by spiking her cold drinks or water, making her unconscious. Taking advantage of her condition, the two men took her to a hotel where they repeatedly sexually assaulted her, committing gang rape.
The victim regained consciousness and subsequently filed a complaint at Jahangirpura Police Station. Based on her complaint, the police have registered a case of gang rape against both accused. One of the accused has been identified as Aditya Upadhyay, the BJP Ward Secretary of Ward No. 8. Both have been arrested and legal proceedings are underway.
Details of the Incident
Aditya Upadhyay, who lives in Anand Park Society on Ved Road and serves as BJP Ward No. 8 Secretary, along with his friend Gaurav Singh (also residing in Ved Road), are accused of gang-raping the young woman. The victim, originally from Bihar, had recently moved to Surat after completing her college studies and was staying with her family.
Through social media, Gaurav and Aditya befriended the woman and frequently messaged and spoke with her on the phone. A few days ago, the duo planned to take her to Dumas for an outing, convincing her to join them. However, instead of Dumas, they took her to an unknown seashore where they drugged her drink, causing her to lose consciousness. They then carried her to a hotel room located on the canal road in Jahangirpura, above the Jalaram Hotel in Oyo Green Hotel.
There, Aditya and Gaurav repeatedly raped the minor. When the victim regained consciousness, she reported the crime to the police. Both accused have been arrested, and a case of gang rape has been filed against them.
Additional information reveals that Aditya Upadhyay’s father runs a cable TV business in Surat, while Gaurav Singh works as a waiter in a hotel, helping his family financially.
Friendship Developed on Instagram
The victim first received a friend request on Instagram from Gaurav Singh, which she accepted and started chatting with him via messages. Within three days, she also received a friend request from Aditya Upadhyay, which she accepted and started communicating with him as well. She shared her mobile number with both, and the trio often spoke over the phone. It appears that Gaurav Singh and Aditya Upadhyay had planned together to befriend the woman.
