Surat, Choryasi: Choryasi MLA Sandeepbhai Desai set a remarkable example by celebrating his 53rd birthday through acts of social service. He visited various wards of the New Civil Hospital in Surat, interacted with patients, and provided much-needed assistance to the underprivileged.
On this occasion, the MLA inaugurated a state-of-the-art operative microscope worth ₹10 lakh in the hospital’s ophthalmology department. This advanced device will aid in complex eye surgeries by providing a clear view of tiny nerves, tissues, and cells, enhancing the quality of treatment for patients.
Key service activities included:

Distribution of 155 kg jaggery, 155 kg dates, and nutrition kits to 155 pregnant and lactating women.

Gifting of sarees to 155 mothers.

Toys for newborns.

Wheelchairs and walkers for 5 differently-abled individuals.

Fruit kits distributed to over 800 patients.
MLA Sandeep Desai personally met with patients, inquired about their well-being, and extended his good wishes. He said,
“‘Kotijanmarjitam Phalam’ — charity done on one’s birthday equals the virtue of many lifetimes. A birthday is not just a celebration, but an opportunity to express gratitude to God and give back to society.”
Medical College Dean Dr. Mahendrasinh Chauhan praised the initiative, stating,
“Despite holding a political position, Sandeepbhai showed heartfelt compassion for underprivileged patients, making his birthday truly meaningful.”
Iqbal Kadivala, Vice President of the Nursing Association, added,
“Charity on one’s birthday is not just social service—it brings spiritual fulfillment and a sense of divine connection.”
MLA Desai began his day with prayers and immediately proceeded to the hospital to engage in service. Female sanitation workers and differently-abled individuals offered him wishes for a long and healthy life. The joy on the faces of those receiving wheelchairs and mobility aids was clearly visible.
The event was attended by the MLA’s wife, Dr. Mahendrasinh Chauhan, Nursing Superintendent Jigisha Shrimali, Nirja Patel, Steffi Macwan, Iqbal Kadivala, RMO Dr. Ketan Nayak, Councilor Hemanshu Raulji, and several doctors, nursing staff, and family members.
