Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take stock of the ongoing flood situation in the state. During the call, the Prime Minister was briefed on how continuous rainfall in Assam and neighboring states has triggered widespread flooding, severely affecting local communities.
Chief Minister Sarma informed PM Modi about the extent of the damage and the steps being taken by the state government to provide relief and carry out rehabilitation operations. He shared details of the ongoing efforts to assist those impacted by the deluge.
“The Hon’ble PM expressed deep concern and assured full support from the Central Government for our relief and rehabilitation initiatives,” Sarma stated after the call. “Grateful for his guidance and unwavering support to the people of Assam,” he added.
According to official sources, the floods and accompanying landslides have claimed 11 lives so far. Over 5.35 lakh people across more than 20 districts remain affected by the disaster.
