BJP Leader Arrested for Rape; Youth Congress Protests Lead to Detentions in Surat

A politically explosive case has emerged in Surat, stirring up significant unrest in the local political circles. Aditya Upadhyay, the General Secretary of Ward No. 8 of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been arrested on serious charges of rape. Following the completion of his police custody under remand, Upadhyay was presented before a court in Surat.

During his court appearance, members of the Youth Congress staged a protest, which led to police intervention and the detention of several Congress workers.

The Youth Congress launched a fierce protest in the city over the incident. During the demonstration, protesters blocked a police jeep and raised slogans such as “Rapist Jalsa Party, Down Down,” directly targeting BJP leadership. The workers alleged that “This is no longer the Bharatiya Janata Party, but has turned into the Rapist Jalsa Party.”

Police Take Action

As the situation escalated during the protest, Surat police took stringent measures, detaining several Youth Congress activists. Force was used by police to disperse the protestors and remove them from the site.

Youth Congress leaders stated that individuals involved in such heinous crimes should have no place in a national party like the BJP. They demanded that the party take a clear stance and necessary disciplinary actions. They further urged for the strictest legal action against the accused and emphasized that women’s safety must be a top priority.
